What I found most interesting from reading everyones posts was how similar people's were to mine. I thought I was the only one that was new to Excel but it ends up that a lot of people were. I also liked reading the random thoughts other people write about like football, and stressful classes, and what they did that weekend. It's a really fun way to communicate with your classmates.

I want to learn how to use a Mac computer as my next project. I also want to learn more about Picture software and how to make picture slide shows and set music to them. One of my friends did this and it was really cool. I also want to learn how to get rid of red eye since I seem to have it in every picture I take.
I wish to acheive my technology goals by keeping the skills I learned in this class sharp so I can use them when I teach in a few years. I am going to use PowerPoint in other classes and I know that I will just become more confident as time goes on. I am going to continue to work on Excel as well becasue it will definitly come in handy in the future.

A web based resources I have found to be very helpful is www.Askjeeve.com . I remember using this site in middle school but I didnt know just how useful it was. Not only can you ask any question and it will give you multiple websites with useful information, you can also get images of what you are searching for as well. It is similar to google but not as much junk shows up.
I decided to ask Where is Florida? Not only did I get information on Florida, I got a map of the U.S. as well as just Florida. You can also get Images of cities as well as city maps and listing of places like restaurants and entertainment venues.
Next I want to learn how to use a Mac computer as well as the different software that goes along with it. Lots of my friends have Mac's and the are very different from what I am used to, but they are growing rapidly in popualrity and I think it would be useful to know how to use one.
I might acheive my future educational technology goals by working together with friends to learn new software and program. I know I could teach my friends things about Power Point and Excel and I'm sure they could reciprocate and teach some things as well.

Blog 8

Chapter 8 begins by talking about Computer Security and computer viruses. It categorizes viruses as either logic bombs or time bombs. It talks about virus detection and removal which is very important in order to keep your computer safe. Hardware theft and vandalism is also an important topic. Software theft is a growing problem now a days. Backing up you computer is stressed as the ultimate safeguard. Then it gets into privacy laws and copyright laws. The Children's internet protection act is discussed which was totally new to me. Parental controls are also important when it comes to keeping kids safe on the web.
This week I have learned a lot about Power Point. I never knew how to do slide transitions, add sound affects, or even animation until class on Wednesday. I really like the whole game board idea and hopefully with a little more practice with hyperlinks I will successfully finish the project.
This week has been really busy due to Homecoming. There have been events all week leading up to the parade tomorrow and PowWow which I am really excited about. I cant wait for the game on Saturday, we better beat those blue devils!!! Go Noles!

In chapter 6 I learned all about technology integration also called curriculum intergration. More and More teachers are starting to use computer to teach their students. There are barriers to technology integration however including insufficient hardware and software, and lack of training in order to teach certain things. The chapter focused on planning lessons with technology helping students develop digital literacy and gettting them motivated and exctied about learning. The book mentioned computer labs and I know that is a very important thing to have for sudetns to work in. Not enough schools have computer labs due to funding and this is very unfortunate.
Since last week I have learned a lot of new things about Microsoft Word. By doing the 120 problem traning that was due today I learned the ins and out of what I thought was a simple software. Although I was overwelmed by how many steps were required for many of the procedures I completed it. I just hope I can remember all the new things I learned.
This weekend was really exciting since we beat Bama and Florida lost to Auburn. It was a sports oriented weekend which was nice after a long week of school and work. I am unforntunatly missing this weekends home game but you can bet I will be watching it on tv. Also I was really excited that class was cancelled and we were able to work on the tasks in the comfort of our rooms. Until next week, bye bye!

In Chapter two there was a lot of information presented dealing with the Internet. The Internet is the best part of computers I think but I still had a lot to learn about in this area. There are three kinds of hyperlinks: Target, Relative, and Absolute. I also never heard of Internet 2 , and apparently it is used in over 200 universities around the country. The chapter also talked about discussion boards which I think are very useful in schools today. Internet security was also a hot topic that has been in the news a lot recently. Kids think they are safe on the internet but they arents with all the predators out there and you really have to be careful who you talk to and what you make available to the general public. The internet can be a very sketchy place.
I have learned much more about MS Word since last week. I couldnt believe that there were 120 questions on the training but there are so many tools and gadgets on this program that I have never used before. Like I always thought you had to check grammer and spelling at the end of your paper, but I now know you can set it up so that the computer checks it as you type. This is a very useful tool that I will definitly use in the future.
Today in my Intro to Education class we were suppose to watch a clip off the internet, but my teacher didnt know how to find the clip and get it to play. She said she was very bad with technology and asked if anyone could help. One of the students raised her hand and showed her how to find the website quickly without looking through hundreds of websites. This really showed me how important it is to know how to use computers in the classroom. Once she found the clip she couldn't get the volume to increase on the website so again two students had to assist her. I just sat there and thought about this class and how I hope I will never have to admit to not knowing anything about computer while asking my students to help me.

Chapter 4 was filled with a lot of useful information. I learned about the Central Processing Unit or CPV also called the processor or microprocessor. Things like Fetching, Decoding, Executing, and Storing are all functions. Memory was alos discussed in this chapter. I learned about Random Access Memory, Read-only memeory, and Flash memory, which I am already familiar with. I also learned about Input Devices including the keyboard, numeric keyboard, and digital cameras. It also discussed Output Devies like monitors and display devices, nonimpact printers, and fax machines. I think Fax Machines are extremely useful in this day and age, it is quick and beats sending things by mail.
I have learned a lot of new information involving my new digital camera and all the cool functions it has. I took the time to read the manual and learned all about red eye functions and shooting in different light and different times of day. I am obsessed with photography and making slide shows of all my pictures on my computer. I remember using disposable cameras back in the day and I cant imagine going back and not having a digital camera now a days.
I like learning about all the new technologies coming out now. When I was in elementry school there was very little technology used in the classroom. I didnt even see a power point presentation until I was in middle school. However my students will be able to have access to technology at a very young age because of all the advances in technology. It will help the students be eager to learn and not get bored as fast. Chalkboards and dry earse boards are so old school and computers are the new thing.

I read chapter 3 and learned about Word Processing Software. I never realized how much I use Word Processing until today. For example I had two papers in two classes to turn in today. I would not have been able to complete these assignments if it wasnt for Word Processing. I also got the privledge to teach my grandparents all about word processing. The book taught me some tricks I didnt know. Now I can pass on even more to them as I learn it. I have never learned exactly how to do a spread sheet before and the book explained spread sheets pretty well. They are used in business a lot to sort and organize data, and I think thats why I have never done one before.
Since last week I havent really learned much about technology excpet for how to copy and paste one of my posts from one Blog to another. I had accidently created two seperate Blogs and I now I have to earse one, which will help whoever is grading the Posts.
I think the new iphone is really awesome. It is one of the coolest pieces of technology I've seen so far. One of my friends just got one and has been teaching me how to use it. It is really complex, and takes a while to get used to. But the map is my favorite part and it will instantly show you any city or town you want and even zooms in to make building and cars noticeable. It is also cool cause if you ever get lost the phone will get you directions and help you find your way. If I had the money I would buy an iphone for sure.
